Castle Rock
Selling coins in Castle Rock, the Douglas County seat
The town takes its name from the butte above it, a flat-topped rock with a hard caprock. Castle Rock became the Douglas County seat in 1874, and in the late 1800s quarries around town cut rhyolite that went into buildings across the Front Range. A few of the old downtown buildings on Wilcox and Perry streets are built from that stone.
A star first went up on the rock in 1936, and the holiday Starlighting is one of the town's longest-running traditions. Families who go back several generations here remember Castle Rock as a ranching and quarry town along I-25. Their houses hold the older material we see in Douglas County: Morgan dollars, Indian Head cents, Mercury dimes and now and then a pre-1933 gold piece wrapped in a handkerchief.
Since the 1990s Castle Rock has grown quickly, with neighborhoods like The Meadows, Crystal Valley Ranch, Founders Village and Plum Creek filling the hills on both sides of the highway. Coin collections move with families, so a Castle Rock estate may hold coins from every mint: Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco, plus O for New Orleans and CC for Carson City on older silver. We read each mint mark as part of the grade check.
Silver dollars turn up in Castle Rock estates of every age. Each Morgan and Peace dollar is 90% silver, and we grade every one for date, mint mark and condition. A CC Morgan, a better date or a coin with clean, original surfaces can sell well above its silver, and a worn common date is priced on its metal. Old pennies get the same sort, with wheat cents and Indian Heads gone through by date and mint mark so the better ones are not lost in the jar.
For a Castle Rock appointment, you tell us what works when you book, and we settle the meeting place from there. If the collection is large or the house is being settled as an estate, ask about a home visit. At the appointment you get a written, item-by-item offer, and you can take payment that day or keep the coins and the paperwork. Bring a government-issued photo ID, and expect a return call the same business day once you leave a message at 303-401-0104.

Questions
Selling coins and gold in Castle Rock
My grandparents ranched near Castle Rock. What coins should I look for in their things?
Look for silver dollars, Mercury dimes, Walking Liberty halves, Indian Head cents and gold coins dated before 1933, often kept in tins, coin purses or a dresser. Leave everything uncleaned. Paper money such as silver certificates and large-size notes is worth setting aside for us to look at too.
Is the 1921-D Morgan in my dad's Castle Rock collection special?
In the original series, Denver struck Morgans only in 1921, so a 1921-D draws attention. It is not a scarce date in most grades, though, and condition decides much of its worth. We grade it with you and price it on silver content and collector demand.
Where do Castle Rock sellers meet you?
The meeting place is set when you book. The appointment is arranged around you, and larger estates can ask about a home visit. Each coin is evaluated one-on-one, and the evaluation is free with no obligation.
